Inspired by the Vision and Mission to offer to the Common Taxpayer and Investor, a simple, lucid and jargon-free compendium of practical ideas and authentic information on the fascinating theme of Personal Tax and Investment Planning, the seed of ‘Practical Tax Planning’ was sown in April, 1978, when the Father-Son Duo, Shri Mangalbhai P. Patel, Retired Commissioner of Income-tax and Shri Mukesh M. Patel, a young Law Graduate in the second year of his profession, started writing their weekly column on Direct Taxes ‘Aaykar Bhavan Na Umrethi ’in the leading Gujarati Daily, ‘Gujarat Samachar.’ From 2015, the weekly column assumed its New Avataar in the oldest Newspaper of Gujarat ‘Sandesh’ under the popular name ‘Tax Planning with Mukesh Patel.’

With his Columns in Gujarati and also in English, published in ‘The Times of India,’ ‘New Indian Express’ and ‘Ahmedabad Mirror,’ Mukesh Patel has during the span of over four decades achieved a unique and unprecedented feat of having to his credit over 5,000 Articles on Tax Payer Education in the Print Media.

Mukesh Patel believes that Tax and Investment Planning is both an art and a science. It is a science, since it is based on sound information, tested principles and logical statistics. However, it is also an art, since it involves intelligent analysis, judicious decision-making and a sixth sense of visualisation. “With this underlying objective, I sincerely endeavour to articulate all relevant facets of this art and science in all my presentations both in the Print and Electronic Media,” he observes.

The First Edition of the Book ‘Practical Tax Planning & Ready Reckoner’(PTPRR) released in 1979 was blessed to receive its PREAMBLE from the distinguished legal luminary and Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer and the annual publication of its updated editions published by Bhayani Publications of Mumbai has never taken a break. The Book has seen the third generation of Patels with young International Tax Attorney Jigar Mukesh Patel continuing to be a Torch Bearer of the Publication, fast racing towards its Golden Jubilee.

In fact, PTPRR in Gujarati found its English Siblings under the authorship of Mukesh Patel with his popular Book Titles published by India’s Premier Tax Publishing House, TAXMANN. These include ‘Tax Planning Via Planning of Investments,’ ‘Axe Your Tax & Relax,’ ‘Practical Tax Planning,’ ‘Smart Strategies for Tax Saving’ and ‘Save Tax – The Smart Way,’ in company of ‘The NRI Guide’ authored by Jigar Patel. The combined score of these Book Editions in English and Gujarati has traversed way beyond the 50 mark.

2001 witnessed the maiden initiative of launch of a first of its kind Tax Show on Doordarshan presented by Mukesh Patel. His passion for championing the cause of Tax Payer & Investor Education inspired him to continue with his absorbing and creative presentations on several leading Electronic Media including CNBC Awaaz, CNBC Bajaar, Zee, ET Now Swadesh and Sandesh News. The tally of his popular TV Episodes under the Series ‘Tax Planning with Mukesh Patel,’ ‘Tax Guru,’ ‘Tax Mantra,’ Tax Free,’ ‘Money Magic’ and ‘The NRI Show’ in Gujarati, Hindi and English over the years has also crossed the 500 mark in 2022.
